Your child will spend a week playing and learning about music in a fun, physical way! With our counselor’s guidance, children will explore the play structures, learn interactive songs, play musical games, and explore rhythms with various percussion instruments. They will learn basic melodies as a group on color-coded handbells and pitched percussion instruments. They’ll also get an introduction to the piano, drums, and ukulele. Throughout the week they will design and make their own musical instruments and learn how to play them as a group with different rhythms and tempos. Children will also be led through basic movement to music classes and painting to music classes.
Looking to get your child playing an instrument this summer and not sure where to start? How about a week of learning piano! We’ve distilled the curriculum from our popular Group piano classes down to five, half days of lessons and activities that introduce kids to one of the easiest instruments on which to start! They’ll learn the basics of the piano, how it works, and a little of its history. They’ll learn about musical notes and rhythms, how they are written with numbers and symbols, and by the end of the week, they’ll have learned how to play their first songs!
Treat your child to a crash course in all things ukulele with our Ukulele camp! Kids can learn all about this awesome little instrument starting with how it works and some of its history. On the first day, they’ll be learning basic melodies and simple chords using easy-to-read charts and TAB notation. By the end of the week, they’ll have learned how to play them in tempo and with dynamics. Plus, it’s a great stepping stone toward learning guitar because its neck is smaller, has fewer strings but is tuned much like a guitar so that a lot of the same chord shapes and melody patterns are applicable to both.
This camp is for kids looking to get started on one of the most popular and portable instruments, the guitar! Students with no prior experience can learn to read, play, and imitate simple rhythms along with the guitar string names and fretboard layout so they can start playing songs as soon as possible. Campers will play simple melodies, popular guitar “riffs” and chords using our fun, intuitive exercises and book materials. They’ll develop finger dexterity through warm-ups that require the use of multiple fingers. We’ll also practice improvisation or “jamming” as a group and set them up to do so on their own!
