Maggie Wright

Piano Instructor Durham NC

Maggie Wright is a recently retired music teacher that just moved to the Triangle area from Craven County Schools in New Bern. There she worked with children and youth choirs, singing in the Daybreak Choir and ringing handbells with the Sanctuary Bells at First Presbyterian Church. She maintained a private piano studio for over 30 years doing her first love – teaching children, youth, and adults how to play the piano.

Maggie holds degrees in music from James Madison University (Bachelor in Music Ed.) and East Carolina University (Masters of Music). She is also a National Board Certified Teacher in Early/Middle Music, with a specialization in ages 3-12, and certified instructor of Orff-Schulwerk, the internationally renown methodology based on learning music through movement.

Many of her students have participated in the National Guild of Piano Teachers auditions, scoring in the excellent/superior range. Some students advanced to earn the High School Diploma, which is an intensive musical undertaking for both the student and teacher and can be listed on resumes and college applications. Some students have successfully auditioned for college music programs and have received music scholarships at the university level.
