Tate Jones

Tate Jones - Violin and Viola Instructor
Tate Jones graduated with distinction with a Bachelors of Music from UNC Chapel Hill, along with a B.A. in Biology and a chemistry minor. He has played viola and guitar nearly all his life, and through the years has picked up violin, bass, ukulele, piano, and drums. While in school, Tate played in the UNC Symphony Orchestra all four years, serving as section leader for two, and was recognized with awards for achievement in both orchestra and chamber music. He also participated in the UNC Baroque Ensemble, which plays on period instruments, and still regularly DJs for WXYC, UNC’s student run radio station.

Tate’s experience in music education includes years of teaching violin, viola, guitar, bass, and piano, in both group and private settings, as well as helping to teach some of his 7 younger siblings, all of whom play viola. Beyond classical music, he enjoys attending concerts (especially experimental rock at Cat’s Cradle!) and playing in blues guitar jams whenever possible. Tate also writes, records, and produces his own music, and has released a full length album. Music is the most important thing in Tate’s life, and he looks forward to passing on this excitement and love of music!
